Trans in Action
Trans in Action is an advocacy and empowerment group for transgender runaway and homeless youth. Trans in Action group members meet twice weekly to discuss current issues facing their communities, and develop new and creative ways to address discrimination and exclusion. Past Trans in Action core groups have focused on improving media representation of transgender people and advocating for the civil rights of incarcerated transgender people.
In 2011, Trans in Action members created, filmed and edited a documentary about representation of trans women in media and “transploitation,” which was shared with an audience of over 100 attendees at the 10th annual Philadelphia Trans Health Conference.
Trans in Action is an innovative model of community building and positive inclusion within and beyond the transgender community that give members the tools they need to carry the vision of powerful transgender leadership to communities everywhere.
